Elegance Made of Time Ⅱ

The work aims to capture the beauty of restraint, like a simple, monochrome painting, with simplicity in form and expression. In the East, emptiness is called the ‘beauty of blank space’ and is considered a passage that relieves visual fatigue. In a full life, what is precious cannot be seen, and as we discard, only important things remain, so the implied meaning and imagination of ‘emptiness’ are infinite.
The minimalistic expression through simple lines and monochrome glaze in the work has a natural form rather than exaggerated techniques, and was able to satisfy a more plain and pure formativeness. Although it may seem unfinished, the fact that something is empty also means the possibility of filling it with something new. The time of blank space through the work allows the viewer to have emotions and thoughts.
Just as everyday thoughts and the intensity of those thoughts naturally melt into the work, the work that allows them to go beyond what they see with their eyes and give them craft and affection shows them the possibility that meaning can constantly change and be newly created.
‘Time-Embracing Elegance’ is a work that blends the aesthetics of ‘Moon Jar’, which has been evaluated as ‘Korean Minimalism’ due to its simple and not traditionally flashy colors and shapes, with a modern sensibility. By engraving the letters ‘壽’ and ‘福’, which contain wishes, it aims to harmonize the tradition that has been maintained for a long time with the new sense of modernity. This change, which is not excessively revealed in the traditional image of restraint that white porcelain has, is also connected to the diversity of the times, and it aims to simultaneously express the practicality that is the essence of ceramic crafts, not a non-functional sculpture, and the simple and clear minimalistic sensibility.
The work is a process in which things experienced and impressed while living daily life are subconsciously drawn out by some stimulus. I hope that people who communicate through the work, feel the depth and aesthetics of the work, and share this extremely personal taste of mine will gather and share that emotion.

Elegance Made of Time

I happened to see this blue and white porcelain decorated with a longevity pattern in a book I opened in another artist’s studio! The decoration of the small bowl that would have been used as an everyday item reminded me of the patterns of a famous brand.

We all have our own unique lines.
These lines create a form and express our uniqueness by creating an image.
Just as the traces of the days that people have lived are different, the quality of each deformity is different.
It only began to show while making it.
I was able to understand its value more by making it repeatedly.

‘Moon Jar’ is a work of art that shows the high technical skills of our ancestors and is evaluated as the best expression of Korean beauty and emotion, and its traditional beauty and value are recognized enough to be reproduced in modern times.
It is a unique and representative form of Korean white porcelain that cannot be found anywhere else, and it pursues the inner beauty and spiritual value that Koreans have pursued as a representative porcelain of our country, such as the special production method and the Korean aesthetic that comes from the deformity. There is a quiet but strong vitality, natural lines and irregular circles, a gentle white color, and a generous form that seems to embrace anything, and there is a feeling of the layers of time. You can feel the energy and dignity of people who have quietly endured life so far, the leisure of life, and the scent of time.
This work is one of the processes of the artist’s continuous development, and it is based on the diversity of ceramic art and the artistic value of tradition to create new emotions and contemporary values, and it is an attempt to reinterpret tradition through homage-like borrowing.
I create a new landscape by thinking about the beauty of blank space that allows me to imagine the story contained in ceramics while making changes so as not to interfere with universal values and formativeness.
I condense the beauty gathered by scattered time into my work.
